One of the greatest needs people have today is to find good friends and feel a sense of community. In today’s fast pace, it is often hard to find the time to develop close friendships. That is why TrueNorth incorporated the Journey Team concept. Becoming a part of a small group within the larger community is the lifeblood of our church.
WHAT IS A JOURNEY TEAM?
At TrueNorth, Journey Teams (or J Teams) are small groups where people get together on a weekly basis to study the Bible and get to know people on their spiritual journey. This dynamic of 8-14 people becomes a family that cares for, prays for, laughs with, and has fun together.
WHAT ARE THE MEETINGS LIKE?
The Journey Team meetings are low-key and an easy way to build friendships within a large church. The group meets every week in homes. Usually the group starts by eating together and then settling in to Bible study, life application, and prayer.
WHAT IF I DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THE BIBLE?
No prior experience necessary! While we believe the Bible and use it, we are not about creating biblical scholars. We are more interested in applying the Bible to every day life.
WHY NOT THE TRADITIONAL SUNDAY SCHOOL SETTING?
We believe people are more comfortable in a small home group setting. Since there is more time available than in a Sunday School setting, people tend to share life’s ups and downs without being concerned about time. Besides, Sunday School space is expensive. Living rooms are free!
HOW DO I GET IN A JOURNEY TEAM?
We have designated days when J Teams are forming or accepting new members. Typically, this is during the beginning of the school year and the beginning of the new year. Starting Point classes are the ideal way to get into a J Team. Starting Point is a four week class that is taught in the fall, winter, and spring. J Teams are formed at the end of Starting Point.
WHAT ABOUT CHILDCARE?
Since children in a Journey Team could be distracting, each team provides childcare at the church’s expense.
